Burcu advises on many aspects of business law, specializing in mergers and acquisitions, corporate transactions, foreign investments, compliance, as well as all types of day-to-day commercial and employment issues which face companies operating in Turkey. She has a significant track record advising clients during their most sensitive and high-risk compliance projects or investigations, where advocacy and negotiation skills play crucial roles, along with strategic planning and conflict resolution. Burcu pro-actively addresses strategic risk areas during projects and evolving conflicts, developing mitigation strategies which support clients to achieve their desired results.

Burcu represents major Turkish conglomerates and international companies during mergers, acquisitions, and corporate transactions. She advises both on buy-side and sell-side mergers and acquisitions in both strategic deals, as well as private equity and venture capital investments. Burcu is widely known for her representation of venture capital and private equity funds during their investments in early stage or growth stage companies. Burcu’s broad transactional experience allows her to advise on unique or contentious project issues, pro-actively identifying key risk areas and implementing mitigation strategies.

Her experience across a diverse range of issues means Burcu supports clients to navigate a full spectrum of compliance issues, including anti-corruption, business crimes, anti-money laundering, anti-terrorism, employee misconduct, corporate governance, directors’ and officers’ liabilities as well as privacy and data protection, in both contentious and non-contentious circumstances.

Burcu has broad experience with compliance projects, offering multi-faceted capabilities which stretch from reviewing existing compliance approaches, through to localizing, structuring and implementing compliance programs from the ground up. She has significant experience managing high-stakes internal investigations, as well as conducting compliance and anti-bribery reviews during M&A transaction or third-party engagement procedures. Burcu regularly advises the international headquarters of global companies which operate in Turkey during internal investigations regarding obligations which arise from extraterritorial legislation, such as the FCPA or UKBA.

Burcu is also actively involved in advising on employment matters, supporting both international and local clients. Her employment support covers transactional and project-based matters, along with daily advice, disputes, and investigations. For instance, Burcu advises on employment needs during corporate restructures or business unit transfers, as well as during policy and procedure building, hiring and firing, or disciplinary processes. She has notable experience managing internal investigations stretching to employee misconduct and fraud. She has notable experience localizing and implementing global contracts, codes of conduct, policies and related practices.

Burcu is the firm’s UN Global Compact representative and attended the Summer Academy of the International Anti-Corruption Academy in 2015. She participates as an expert to the Legal Working Group of the Turkish Industry and Business Association (TÜSİAD). Burcu is a founder and board member of the Data Protection Association of Turkey. She also participates in the UNCITRAL Cloud Computing Working Group. Burcu acted as a mentor for Endeavor Turkey’s entrepreneurs and start-ups, as well as the G3 Entrepreneurship Forum.
