Extension of Prohibitions on Employer Initiated Terminations, and of Period for Unpaid Leave

Presidential Decree numbered 3930 (the “Decree”), published in Official Gazette numbered 31470, of April 30, 2021, extends employer prohibitions on termination of employment contracts specified in article 10 (temp.) pp. 1 and 2 of Employment Law numbered 4857, and the period for unpaid leave. Accordingly, as of 30 April 2021, and continuing through 30 June 2021, employers are prohibited, except for just cause, from terminating employment contracts.

The Decree does not stay or extend the end date of naturally expiring fixed-term contracts, or for contracts for which all work or services contemplated has been fully performed.

In addition, the right of employers to put employees on full or partial unpaid leave is extended through 30 June  2021.
