The Principles and Procedures for the Allocation of Domain Names in the Structure of “a.tr” Prepared Based on the Regulation on Internet Domain Names and the Communique on Internet Domain Names, have been published by the decision numbered 2023/İK-BTD/244 of the Information Technologies and Communication Board dated 15.08.2023.

The Principles and Procedures for the Allocation of Domain Names in the Structure of “a.tr” Prepared Based on the Regulation on Internet Domain Names and the Communique on Internet Domain Names, have been published by the decision numbered 2023/İK-BTD/244 of the Information Technologies and Communication Board dated 15.08.2023. The developments published within the scope of the decision are as follows.

“x.tr” domain names will soon be available for use in Turkey. Assignment of such domain names is taking place gradually in consideration of certain priorities. Planning of the process is as follows:

• Public bodies had the priority to take over “x.tr” domain names. For example, owner of “abc.gov.tr” was entitled to obtain “abc.tr” as well. This process ended on November 2023.
• Second priority has been of public occupational organizations, associations and foundations. This process is expected to end around February 2024.
• Finally, owners of domain names with the following extensions will be entitled to take over the desired domain names (x.tr) on the condition that they have not been already obtained by the above mentioned organizations: “x.kep.tr”, “x.av.tr”, “x.dr.tr”, “x.com.tr”, “x.org.tr”, “x.net.tr”, “x.gen.tr”, “x.web.tr”, “x.name.tr”, “x.info.tr”, “x.tv.tr”, “x.bbs.tr”, “x.tel.tr”.Priority among these domain name owners will be set by the same order as listed above. This period is estimated to start around February 15, 2023.
• After this period, “x.tr” domain names that are still not taken will be subject to “first come, first served” approach.
