Turkey’s Personal Data Protection Authority (“Authority”) has extended the deadline for registration with the Data Controller Registry System (“VERBİS”) to 31 December 2019, for certain data controllers.
As stated in our previous article, data controllers which employ 50 or more employees or whose total annual financial balance is more than TRY 25 million were obliged to register with VERBİS between 1 October 2018 and 30 September 2019.
However, due to the applications to the Personal Data Protection Board (“Board”) by the Turkey’s Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges and various industry representatives, the Authority has extended the deadline to 31 December 2019 for those data controllers. The decision was announced on the Board’s website and published in the Official Gazette.
