The Personal Data Protection Board (“Board”) issued a decision, dated 8 December 2020, and numbered 2020/927, on a data subject-university lecturer’s (“Petitioner”) request to be excluded from results of search engine queries about certain scandalous but unproven information regarding Petitioner’s university employer.
The Board found no grounds under Personal Data Protection Law numbered 6698 to grant the requested relief. The Board reasoned that, in as much as the substance of the petition raises issues of libel rather than data protection, the petition was misplaced. The appropriate forum is a trial court.
