The following article gives a summary of decrees by the Council of Ministers and communiqués by the Ministry of Economy regarding prevention of unfair competition in imports, made between 1 June 2017 and 30 June 2017.
Safeguard Measure Investigation Launched Into Polyethylene Terephthalate Imports
At the request of local manufacturers, the Import General Directorate of the Ministry has initiated a safeguard measures investigation into imports of polyethylene terephthalate (with viscosity of 78 ml/g or more). The investigation will be conducted by the General Directorate and completed within nine months.
The investigation has been launched by the Communiqué on Safeguard Measures in Imports number 2017/6, published in Official Gazette number 30099 on 17 June 2017, entering into effect on the same date. Please see this link for the full text of the relevant Communiqué (only available in Turkish).
Procedures and Principles Introduced for Surveillance Applications Regarding Tableware and Kitchenware
The Communiqué on Surveillance Application in Imports number 2017/9 (“Communiqué”) determined procedures and principles for surveillance applications launched into tableware and kitchenware, which are worth less than certain Unit Customs Values.
The Communiqué was published in Official Gazette number 30104 on 22 June 2017, and will enter into effect on the 30th day after its publication.
Qualifying goods can only be imported with a surveillance document issued by the Ministry of Economy (“Ministry”).
To obtain the surveillance document, forms attached to the Communiqué must be completed and sent to the Ministry. Surveillance documents are valid for six months and cannot be transferred. Surveillance documents must be returned to the Ministry within ten business days after expiry.
